Also on Windows/Mac/Linux you can get Duplicacy, which is free for personal use as long as you use the CLI version (UI is free for restores and checks). How do I back up all my data from my laptop to an external hard drive? As already mentioned, Robocopy is a decent option. It then writes the results to /boot/grub/grub.cfg, which is wherever the currently mounted /boot/grub is. Typically this will include a step where it searches for other OS partitions to add menu options for them. I've also heard good things about Duplicacy versus borg, restic, duplicati and other command-line backup software, though I never actually tried any of them. Basically, it constructs grub.cfg from various settings and scripts. Is it only me or abb for linux is awful? You might want to try testing Veeam Agent for Linux Free to get a sense of how it works, though I would think your use case would require you to buy a license for your client. If it's some DIY NAS that you have connected to your PC, there are various options: Veeam Free Agent for Windows/Linux:, Duplicacy:, Macrium reflect. You can also grab individual files (which I tested on a different machine I haven’t tested restoring a full backup) by creating the above mentioned file and then running duplicacy list -files -r N (where N is the snapshot you want to get the file from run duplicacy list to find which one you want) and then to get a file duplicacy cat -r N.
